I supplement collagen, mostly for the protein, as you get more protein in collagen with less sugar and sodium, than in most other protein sources. Also, as we get older, our bodies gradually slow in the production of collagen - using it up faster than we can make it. I’m extremely active in my 40s and plan on continuing to be so. Collagen is essential for the health and maintenance of skin, bones, tendons, muscles and the like. And while it is not the fountain of youth, as it won’t replace the lost collagen in my skin necessarily, it will give me the amino acids and protein-based nutrition I need to function. I am low-carb, low-sugar, moderate fat, and high-protein diet-wise, and cross-train and run several times a week.
The Zammex Hydrolyzed Collagen Peptides powder is the second Zammex collagen product I’ve tried now. This one gives users 35 calories, 61mg sodium, 9g protein, 21mg calcium, and 10g collagen per scoop. There are ~30 servings per the 10.6oz tube. I do like that the tub is relative to the amount of powder inside; filled to about an inch from the lid. Instead of grossly oversized. Though I wish many of these supplement makers would transition to something other than a big plastic tub to hold their product. Anyway, it does come safety-sealed and with a scoop. Typical fine white powder inside. Says it is fat-free, sugar-free, gluten-free, GMO-free, and is supposed to be grass-fed. Please see images for additional information.
This collagen supplement powder is colorless (other than the white), odorless, unsweetened, and unflavored. When added to my green drinks or coffee, it does not adulterate the flavor profile of either. Aesthetically, I prefer this in my room temperature water, blended green drink than I do my coffee. When blended in my green drink, it will result in a little foaming that settles after (as this happens with most collagen powders). This is moderately-soluble. In my hot coffee, it likes to separate and float about in melted globs and swirls. Doesn’t alter the taste but the look is unappetizing. Yes, even after copious amounts of stirring it is still there. I have used highly-soluble collagen in my coffee before that just disappears. I was hoping this would be similar, but alas not. Nonetheless, it is a perfectly fine collagen supplement that can be used in your shakes and food. I like it mostly because it is affordable, seems well made, low in calories and high in protein without the sugar and fat. It is unflavored and doesn’t change the flavor of anything I put it in. A nice, absentminded way to add protein to my day.
